Activated Carbon in General:
A wide range of raw materials are used to produce activated carbon, coal, peat, coconut shells and wood are commonly used to make activated carbon in the conventional rotary kilns, which are electrically or gas fired. Less common methods are multiple hearth furnaces and fluidized bed reactor furnaces.
Activated carbon has the ability to adsorb from air or water many types of inorganic and organic compounds, as well as certain heavy metals.
